2023 Open Championship, Brian Harman waggles his way to Claret Jug

The weekend was drama free. Royal Liverpool was gettable, the wind was, generally down, and for 3 of 4 rounds, the sun was felt. The winning score was short of many predictions, and when the final putt dropped it can be said the tournament was not competitive. Even after sinking a par putt to win The Open Championship winner, Brian Harman was reservedly excited. His excitement was akin to eating a good sandwich, not being the freakin Champion Golfer of the Year.

Brian Harman rose into contention in the 2nd round and dominated the 3rd and 4th rounds with precise play from the tee box and fairways and with a steady putting stroke leading to the first Major Championship of his career. All of this great play was executed with a curious sponsor donning his hat. MegaCorp.

MegaCorp or MegaCorp Logistics is a Wilmington, North Carolina-based transportation company. I called the 24/7/365 phone number to get a feeling on how the company is reacting to their Champion Golfer.

BBS: "I'm Brandon from Bogey Bogey Start, and I'm just curious about your thoughts on Brian Harman winning the Open Championship?"

MegaCorp: "....Hold on please"

After a brief moment, the representative returns to the phone.

MegaCorp: "Who you with?"

BBS: "Bogey Bogey Start... it's a golf blog"

MegaCorp: "Alright, hold on one second"

After 5 minutes of waiting, I hang up. MegaCorp is all business.

MegaCorp and Brian Harman have been together since 2018, first coming into view during coverage of the 2018 Masters. It seems the internet has had some interest in this company for a while, perhaps partially spurned by Harman's hat.

Evil or not maybe after this momentous win Titleist will be a major sponsor for Harman, at least enough to get on the front of his hat.

T2 at this year's Open Championship Jason Day had a solid tournament, of which he never truly contended, however. Seeing Jay Day return to the top of the leaderboard in a major is nice to see, with the T2 being his best finish in a major since the 2016 PGA Championship. After his final round Day opined on the conditions with NBC interviewer Cara Banks.

Cara Banks asked Day about his final round.

Cara Banks: "....just describe how much of a challenge this rain was on Sunday."

*Let me interject here and say, it rained constantly for the entire final round.*

Jason Day: "Yeah, I mean the ball was going at least 30-40 yards shorter off the tee.....I'll tell you what on my death bed I'll probably be praying for days like this. I'm not too displeased with the weather over here."

Huh?

I suppose that UK positivity hits people quick. A little rain and he turns into Morrissey.

Tom Kim on a bum right ankle powered through the elements and the course to shoot a 67 and T2. Everyone is still high on Tom Kim coming off his play from last year which included 2 wins and a Presidents Cup appearance where he truly became a media darling. There is no telling how far this love will be extended and if Kim fails to win a major over the next couple of seasons we might see it turn into a classic media angle of "how many times will it take to break through?" or "can he win the big one?" TK is a great golfer and I might be getting ahead of myself in that prediction but let me be clear, I think Tom Kim will win 3 majors by the time he retires from golf. *haters come at me in approximately 40 years*

Sepp Straka and Jon Rahm round out the T2 golfers. Rahm and Straka continue their march to represent the European Ryder Cup this year. Both had solid tournaments with Straka being the more consistent of the two. Rahm catapulted up the leaderboard with a tremendous 3rd round 63. In Sunday's final round, however, he failed to find the spark that he did on Saturday and never truly contended with MegaCorp's man Harman.
