The 2023 Beemer Championship... the end is near, friends
Freakin Lucas Glover huh? He stood like 163rd in the FedExCup Standings 3 weeks ago. After consecutive wins at a very critical point in the season, he's 4th! Billy Horschel had a hot end-of-season run in 2014 and he won the FedExCup that year. Can Lucamania run wild!? *See Instagram post
This week we're heading to the BMW Championship in Illinois with a newly thinned group of players. Only the top 50 make it to Olympia Fields Country Club. To be brutally honest, the players that fell outside the top 50 during last week's play are... mehhhh. With that, the Sleep Scale for the BMW Championship is a conk out (5 minutes). You know one of those naps where you wake up and think, or ask the nearest person "Was I sleeping?"
With only the BMW left before the end of the season, I am getting pumped up about the Ryder Cup. It's inching closer and the choices Zach Johnson has to make are getting more interesting with Lucas Glover's performance lately, who might he be pushing out? Or Bryson Dechambeu's 58 in the latest LIV event, is he on the team? I have to be honest here, I was unaware that LIV players could be considered for Ryder Cup teams, but surely it was from some lawsuit handled over the last year that would allow this to happen. Seems like any decision nowadays whether it be from the government or down to golf, is only a result of some lawsuit. No one communicates effectively anymore.
The last time the BMW was held at Olympia Fields, Jon Rahm won the event. Rahm started the season very hot this year but his play last week left something to be desired. Never count Rahm out, but at this point, I'd say Rory might be the favorite to with the FedExCup title next weekend.
Rory played well last weekend and has a solid summer. We know his bugaboo is putting, but he has shown before that he can win in Atlanta. Uggggghhh I'm getting ahead of myself... So Olympia Fields Country Club has hosted many major championships in its long history. It's been 3 years since Rahms win there in 2020, so I am curious to see how the course plays. We always need to watch for summer weather softening greens and leading to attacking pins. We saw it last week in Memphis, and we'll see it next week in Atlanta no doubt. Yaaayyy summer.
Happy watching this weekend! Swing easy!
