Yaaaaay...? Ryder Cup

I'll be honest... Motivation has been hard to come by recently. Golf has slowed down, life is bizarre, and the seasons are changing. These transformations can seem depressing, but we've got to try and see the beauty in the everyday. I've taken time away from writing my mumbo jumbo golf stuff and reflected on the future of Bogey Bogey Start. That being said, let's talk about some recent events.

Luke Donald released his roster last week. Donald lets recall, is Ryder Cup captain because Henrik Stenson chased money with LIV and was denied an opportunity to be captain of the European Ryder Cup team. Captain Luke has never won a major and is right there with Zach Johnson as one of the more "mehh" golfers in history. A fitting duel for the two of them. The battle for supreme mediocrity. Donald's closest greatness was when Tiger fell from world number 1, and Donald, Lee Westwood, and Rory did that weird three way back and forth business for a while. Our guy Luke was world number 1 for a period of time in 2011.

Henrik Stenson won his only major in his 40s, so it would seem that if not Stenson, then Luke Donald, that the pickins are slim for European Ryder Cup captains. Perhaps this is why Donald chose among others Ludvig Aberg. Aberg (23) was a hot name this summer in golf. Bettors threw all sorts of money on his name, and through his selection to play for the Euro Ryder Cup, Aberg became the first player selected who has not completed in a major. One would have to believe that if the US hosted the tournament, Aberg would not have been chosen. The home-field advantage certainly came into Master of British Excellency Luke Donald's decision-making process. With both Aberg and Nicolai Hojgaard (full transparency... I have no idea who this person is) the average age of the European team is slightly lower than the US team.

In addition to Aberg, the European team consists of automatic qualifiers Rory, Rham, Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Robert Macintyre, with captains picks being Tommy Fleetwood, Sepp Straka, Justin Rose, Shane Lowry, Aberg, and (who the hell is) Hojgaard. Not exactly Murderers Row to be sure, but I see the European team as the favorites going into Rome.

More on the Ryder Cup as we get closer...

Elsewhere, the Fortinet Championship is happening this weekend. Ya know the one Max Homa won last year. Do you care? Do I care? I do not. This is basically golf's offseason, and I find it very hard to watch golf until the Ryder Cup, or in years that don't have a Ryder Cup until the Hawaiian swing. That's a long time void of golf, but I get stiff for fall, and I am a recovering football fan. I try to not watch it, but its hard. All this is to say, Bogey Bogey Start, like my hairline, might get thin for a bit, but hold on to your 9 iron, because there is plenty to get pumped about coming up... Swing Easy
