The future of Bogey Bogey Start....?

Anyone else getting tired of professional golf? I mean, shiiiiit, I love the game of golf but these last few years have really tested my love of professional golf. Case in point... Patrick Cantlay at the Ryder Cup.

I know I've thrown it all at Zach Johnson in previous writings, but let's take a break from him and move on to Patrick Cantlay. Known for his glacial play, and lifeless reactions, Cantlay reportedly was pouting about not being paid to partake in the Ryder Cup. Are you kidding me!? This knob should just shove off to LIV. His "protest" of not wearing a hat during the Ryder Cup is whatever to me. All those clothes are nothing any of us would wear on a golf course. What gets me going is you're going to throw a selfish ass fit that leads to fractures on your own team!?

That brings me to Brooks Koepka and this photo...

Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, Sam Burns, and the Xandy man took this photo wearing LIV team shirts after the US team got their asses handed to them in the 2023 Ryder Cup. Brooks Keopka took a jab at the PGA Tour in getting these dudes to wear this garbage for this photo. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood, but I don't even know if I can watch golf anymore.

The sum of these parts is selfishness and privilege. We all battle selfishness sometimes, and privilege is for the few. These guys have worked very hard for the lives they have, there is no arguing that point. However, they have worked hard for what they have and what do they want? They want more. Not to be the best golfers they can be or to take part in a prestigious event like the Ryder Cup, no no, they want money. That is what golf has become. Perhaps again, another hangover from Tiger Woods.

I dare say that most of us who like to play golf, would give our left nut to play on Tour. What does it say about the world, when, if you get to the Tour you lose that drive for trophies and replace it with the desire to see whatever number followed by nine zeros in your bank account... to be a billionaire. These are rich, white dudes and their voices are being drowned out by their ego to my ears. I care less and less, after the last 2 seasons of pro golf. Hats off to those groups like No Laying Up for going whole hog on covering the PGA, because I cannot do it.

I started this out of a lifelong interest in pro golf, and a love of the sport, but maybe Bogey Bogey Start is going to grow or die from how this past weekend went, and how the last couple of years in pro golf have gone. Do you play golf because you love it? Because you get to meet new people or create new memories with your family or friends? That's the golf I know and love. To pursue something because it's hard is one of the greatest human strengths. Golf is hard, and we love it.
