Leave Anthony Kim alone....and other ramblings

Well then... a 20-year-old sophomore in college won an event. Anthony Kim might come back. And he'll probably join LIV... right?

We've all heard it by now but last weekend a friggin 20-year-old won the American Express. Given his amateur status, Nick Dunlap missed out on a milli and a half payout, and 500 FedExCup points. Never a better time to finish second than last week. Yet another thing almost none of us can empathize with is, "Yeah, I missed a chance to win $1.5 million this weekend."

Poor bastard turned pro days after. We'll see lil Nicky Dunlap elsewhere this season and you'll hear about it for the thousandth time here on Bogey Bogey Start.

Golf.com reported this week that Anthony Kim is expected to return to golf this year. He is of course being courted by LIV, while PGA officials in the story "declined to comment." Classic PGA huh.. have you learned nothing over the last 2 years?

Kim, who has not played professional golf since 2012, has been rumored to return before. In 2021 a photo of him with his old coach circulated stating that 2021 is the year of Anthony Kim. Anyone who might remember him playing is well into their 30s. This might be exciting for us, but doesn't golf need someone like Nick Dunlap, to keep the chances of Zoomers (Gen Z) playing and watching golf?

If he did return to professional golf, what would allure him back to the PGA? With such strict standards of the ability to play certain events. Remember our guy Ashkay last season?? He got shafted at the end of the season. Anyway... Kim might get events like John Deere, or 3M, basically events that no one watches, or cares about. Even if he won one of the events he entered (in this crazy hypothetical scenario) what would he make? Less than 2 million to be sure. Now don't get me started on golf payouts... BUT...

If he went to LIV... and why wouldn't he.. honestly...sadly.... where he'd get guaranteed money, and play less golf. It is far from a perfect system but it is more "hospitable" to someone like AK given his circumstances.

This is all very very hypothetical. And leads me back to my original thought. Leave Anthony Kim alone. Let him do whatever he does, and when he signs up for some golf event... wherever that is... let the news BLOW UP. It is exciting, and yet downright bizarre how this guy who was like a shooting star in golf for a short time... won events...top 10s in Majors... played (well) in the Ryder Cup... and then was gone.. and he is still keeping our attention. Should he rejoin the pro ranks, news folks will be all over this guy, trying to break story after story, until he ultimately gets shit on by everyone. That's how news works, right?

As I hinted at, more people might not know AK, than know him, but that is fine. Give us Millenials someone to cheer for!!

Swing Easy!
